This summer marks our fifth year in Denver. On one hand, it's hard to believe that it's been that long, and on the other, it seems we've been here for much longer. Even harder to believe is that we haven't been to Elitch Gardens Theme and Water Park in all of that time! If you knew me well, you'd know that I am a theme park and ride junkie! Thankfully, I was given the shove I needed to get down there and have some much-needed summer fun. Elitch Gardens invited my family to visit the park so I could share my review and their summer ticket special with you. I was so excited and couldn't wait to check it out.
I think it's safe to say that my boys were also excited to have a fun day at the park. My oldest son went to Elitch Gardens on a school class trip a few years ago, but this was the first time for the rest of the family. The first thing we did when we arrived was to take a spin on the carousel. It isn't a proper trip to an amusement park without that, is it? Then we walked down the cute Main Street area and got an ice cream. We needed some fuel to get through the day. Yeah, that's it! Now we were ready. Unfortunately, the weather was a bit cloudy and we had some rain showers that day. At one point, all of the rides that left the ground were shut down for a little while due to the threat of lightning. Luckily that didn't last long. Considering that we were expecting it to be 90 degrees and beating sunshine that day, we were glad that it was overcast. It made for a more enjoyable day at the park, even if it meant that my photos would be on the dark side.
First stop was KiddieLand to get Dub acclimated. When we went to Disney World and Universal Studios last year, he was a bit apprehensive. What a difference a year makes! He had a blast! Since he was having so much fun, we were glad that KiddieLand was bigger than we initially thought. At the end of the day, we stopped in again and found three more rides that we didn't know where there the first time. Score! His favorite rides were Mike's Bikes, Jumping Jack, and Balloon Race. He also had a lot of fun in the Goofy Gazebo. Since he was having so much fun, we were glad that KiddieLand was bigger than we initially thought. The thrill and family rides were next. For the most part, it was just me and my oldest son who went on the thrill rides and rollercoasters. This is where we got to use our VIP passes. They aren't good for every ride, though I wish they were, but you can use them on the rollercoasters and other thrill rides that usually have long lines. Rides like the Half Pipe, Brain Drain, and Twister II. Being the rollercoaster enthusiast that I am, we had to ride the Twister II right when it opened back up after the lightning threat. Then I had to drag my son on the Mind Eraser. He didn't seem all that thrilled about going on, but he (kind of) thanked me later. Mom wins again!
There are also plenty of amusement park classics at Elitch Gardens like the Tilt-A-Whirl, Ferris Wheel (the Big Wheel), The Spider, Thunderbolt, and more. There is even a water park that we are going to have to visit when the weather is nicer. I guess that means we will have to take advantage of the summer ticket special ourselves. We had an amazing time on our trip to Elitch Gardens and I know you will, too. Now is the perfect time to go because this summer, you can save $20 on day passes if you order through ColoradoKids.com. That's a fantastic deal for an entire day's worth of family fun. Now you don't have an excuse to sit home instead of spending a fun day at Elitch's.
